Bulgarian railway stations to enter the 21st century

A new state of the art integrated system for online booking and issuing of train tickets is poised to be implemented in 2010 for the Bulgarian state rail (BDZ), according to Transport Minister Alexander Tsvetkov, the mass circulation daily 24 Chassa reported.

Once the new booking system is installed, travellers would be able to make their arrangements and book their tickets from computers at home or at work and then receive them once they arrive at the railway station, the report said.

Starting in June 2010, some of Bulgaria's larger railway stations such as Plovdiv, Varna, Bourgas, and Gorna Oryahovitsa will offer travellers access to wireless internet. Additionally, clients of the Bourgas-weekend and Varna-weekend trains will also be able to use the wireless services for free.

The biggest frustration for foriegn travellers in Bulgaria is the lack of the English alphabet on any of it's major bus and train stations..
Trying to book a bus or train ticket from Sofia is virtually impossible without the help of native. Bilgaria needs to catch up with the rest of the world regarding this..
