Rock legends AC/DC thunder in Sofia on May 14

AC/DC lead vocalist Brian Johnson and Angus Young

The legendary Australian rock band AC/DC will shake Sofia to its very foundations with a historic show on May 14 2010, their first gig ever in Bulgaria.

According to different reports, from 40 000 to 50 000 people are expected to descend on Vassil Levski national stadium in the centre of Sofia. The concert is set to begin at 9pm

AC/DC are one of the most iconic and most influential bands in the history of heavy rock music, although the band itself has always insisted that they play "rock and roll".

The legends were formed in the distant 1973 by Scottish brothers Malcolm and Angus Young. AC/DC underwent several line-up changes before releasing their first album, High Voltage, in 1975.

Subsequently, the band's membership kept changing constantly until bassist Mark Evans was replaced by Cliff Williams in 1977 for the album Powerage. Within months of recording the album Highway to Hell, lead singer and co-songwriter Bon Scott died on 19 February 1980, after a night of heavy alcohol consumption.

The group briefly considered disbanding, but soon ex-Geordie singer Brian Johnson was selected to replace Scott. Later that year, the band released their highest selling album, Back in Black.

The interest for the concert in Bulgaria is enormous. Fans are arriving from the United Kingdom, Greece, Serbia, Macedonia and other countries for this once in a life time experience for many rock fans.

Although authorities have not released official information, for the moment, it is only fair to assume that there will be serious obstruction to traffic around the national stadium, Evlogi Georgiev Bouelvard, Orlov Most (Eagles' Bridge), Dragan Tsankov Boulevard, as well as other areas in the centre of Sofia.
