Croatia to spend 30M euro to promote tourism, Bulgaria targeted - report

The Croatian government will step up the promotion of its tourism in Bulgaria by launching an advertising campaign aimed at attracting more Bulgarian tourists in 2010, Bulgarian media reported on April 12 2010, quoting Croatian information agency Hina.

The country will invest about 30 million euro on advertising to boost its tourism sector, which is two million euro more than the amount allocated in 2009. The promotional campaign will encompass 12 countries, including western Europe, Russia, Ukraine, Bulgaria, Serbia, Macedonia and Bosnia and Herzegovina.

According to Dnevnik daily, in 2009, the Croatian government singled out Bulgaria as one of the countries that "present a strong future potential for tourism growth". To date, most Bulgarian visitors are are not counted as tourists by the Croatian national statistics institute, and according to official statistics, in 2009, only 230 Bulgarians travelled to the country as tourists, the report says.

In spite of the fact that Bulgaria and Croatia are close to each other, the report says that tourism between the countries has been significantly below potential.

In 2010, the country will launch an advertising campaign on prominent networks such as the BBC, Eurosport, Euronews, and CNN, featuring clips of Croatia accenting on the country's natural riches and beauty, cultural and culinary traditions, and the fact that the country represents a "lifestyle destination".

Anonymous BG? Forget it! Sun, Jan 23 2011 17:02 CET

Waste of money to advertise in BG ! Try other western European markets for a change - UK or France, not to mention Canada or US.

Croatia goverment should stop focus on useless tourist adds and try bringing croats from chile and other poor areas to return back to croatia. This will improve wealth particular as E.U is forcing multicutural shit immigration.Hello Ireland, norway imagine how it will look in another 10 years like london or paris gypsie town. To simone Croatia has good roads/freeways particular a country rebuilding after the attack by the 4th biggest army in europe.

It's true that Croatian people can B a bit ungracious and even though those R mainly minority - I'm ashamed with that fact. It is also true that prices can B a bit high (if U don't choose wisely), but U can always find great "on the budget" restorans or caffees - I guarantiee U that! But it's a damn lie to say that beer in non-touristic Slavonia is 20 Kuna (around 2.75€)- I'm from Slavonia so I guess I would know, right? It might B if U drink some kond of "deluxe" beers, such as: Erdinger, Hoogarden or so. [...]

Read the full comment Any domestic or standard Europian beer (Tuborg, Heineken, Stella etc...) U can get under 15 Kuna (under 2€). So Mr.Sikmek, I can understand U if U had some bad experiences in Croatia, but U can't say that most of croatian people R horrid! Furthermore U can't talk about beer prices in Slavonia cuz it's either U've newer Bn there, or U simply lie!! either way: It's not right!

ladies and gents,
please don't take me wrong in my statements but I have personal view that our government its bunch of idiots .Any tourist who had visit Croatia can never say that its not beautiful.Specially transition from coast to the inside parts like Plitvice lakes and ect.I agree with the statement that it is too expensive but when you have tax rate of 25 % than imagine revenue that average restaurant must have in order to earn some money during the summer and season in only 2 months. There is no way to compare Croatia with Bulgaria firstly [...]

Read the full comment in the beauty of the Croatian islands and lakes ,coast that is with historical richness in top of worlds destinations >and where is Bulgaria ???I cant say that is not beautiful because i visit Burgas two times but never it can compare with Croatia

Seems tio me living here that this is a colossal waste of money for a country that has so little to spend on tourism. The market is UK, France, Germany, and Scandinavia where it is cold and has none of the Mediterranean charm. The Japanese, Chinese and Austrailians also love Croatia and should be courted. Why anyone from an Eastern European country would want to come to a former Eastern European country seems odd....less people, less money, less interest. As for Russia, where I used to live, they have $500 junkets to Egypt, Tunisia, Cyprus and other countries and even [...]

Read the full comment have similar l week low cost holidays here. Except for the very wealthy, most Russians have $500 a week to spend and that is not enough to come here and stay in a decent hotel. The Croatian National Tourist Office should spend its money on more proven clientele, and not try to develop new markets until it has maximzed its potential in the current richer countries who have barely discovered Croatia.

30 million euro should be enough for few Bulgarians to have a nice holiday in Croatia, probably if they like it they might return the following year. 30 million euro means about 3,75 euro per Bulgarian. About the money they CAN spend a day with the huge salaries paid in Bulgaria.

The basic problem with Croatia-Bulgaria tourism (in both directions) is that Serbia is in the way.

Many Croats have a resistance to visiting Serbia - Bulgarians maybe a bit less so, but it's still there.

You may find that a number of beaches on Black Sea coast are in fact nicer than any of those in Croatia. Yes there are some beautiful parts too but equally the cost is generally 3 times that in BG. Nevertheless, try something diferent -you may then appreciate whay BG also has to offer. Is BG doing anything to promote Croatian tourists to come to BG?

I pased last summer in croatia with a car.The prices was duble than halkidiki and people were not so friedly and kind. The money they inted to spend for advertisement is better to spent to make their roads safer!!!!

Maybe the only advantage BG tourist would have in Croatia is being able to understand the nasty swearing and rip-off craots do..
Croatia is very beautiful but most of its people are horrid, it is also very expensive even in non tourist areas like Slavonia a beer is 20Kuna...

Hardly surprising Bulgarians would want to go there. They haven't built all over their coast.

After Mladost on sea the Dalmatian coast certainly is a pleasant change.

This summer I will spend my first vacation in Croatia.
Pristine beaches and relatively low prices, close destinations and non-GMO food actually drew me into considering this
