Bulgarian father who abandoned child in Greece faces prosecutors

A Bulgarian man is in court in the northern Greek city of Kavala for allegedly abandoning his six-year-old son at a farm, Greek daily Kathimerini reported on April 7 2010.

The 40-year-old faced a Kavala prosecutor on April 6 on charges of leaving the boy on the outskirts of Kavala at a farm. The boy was eventually discovered by a patrol car and taken away by police on Good Friday, the report said.

Eventually, the Greek police found the father, with his other two children, in the nearby city of Xanthi, near the Bulgarian border in the Rhodope Mountains.

Currently, while the father is facing the authorities, all three children are being cared for at a children's hostel in Kavala. Greek police believe the children's mother is in Bulgaria.
