Bulgaria's Regional Development Ministry has drafted a programme for the rehabilitation of 64 bridges and 101 major junctions, to be discussed by Cabinet on March 30 2010, Dnevnik daily reported.

The junctions selected for overhaul are reportedly amongst the busiest and most prone to traffic accidents.

According to Regional Development Minister Rossen Plevneliev, the ministry has prepared infrastructure projects worth about four billion euro, which will be financed under the operative programme Transport in the 2013/20 budget period, including the Strouma Motorway section through the Kresnensko Gorge, the motorways between Sofia and Kalotina, Varna – Bourgas and Sofia – Gyushevo,

A further one billion euro were being slated for infrastructure projects under the Regional Development operational programme. Ideally, "should all projects be completed as scheduled by 2020, Bulgaria would have an efficient road infrastructure," Dnevnik said.

Also under consideration were the Rousse-Shoumen-Varna motorway section, as well as the ports in Rousse and Varna, Dnevnik said.

Furthermore, the proposed Hemus Motorway section between Shoumen and Veliko Turnovo was said to be superfluous. Instead, the plans have to be redesigned so that the road is "scaled down" to fit with the actual traffic demand.

@giovanni

As written in Sofia echo few weeks ago Liulin highway will be finished THIS year. Take your bill for repairs or damage report to mr. Borisov, maybe you're lucky and he will pay up, since he promised the highway to be ready in November (2008) although he forgot to mention the century at that time.
