Work is to begin on feasibility studies on up to five joint projects to be financed by Qatar, it emerged after talks on March 22 2010 between Bulgarian Prime Minister Boiko Borissov and his Qatar counterpart Sheikh Hamad Bin Jassim Bin Jabr Al-Thani.

An interstate company is to be set up to carry out the projects. Initially, a joint committee will start work within two weeks to explore the possibilities for projects.

Investments in Bulgaria by Qatar would be sure to see a good return on investments and "I think they will be profitable for both sides," Borissov said.

"We have not discussed concrete amount of investments but Qatar is ready to invest in Bulgaria," Qatar’s prime minister said.

During the visit, Bulgaria and Qatar signed on memorandum on co-operation in the energy sector, to serve as a basis for future negotiations for prospecting, extraction, transportation and supply of energy resources and the building of related infrastructure. Also signed was an agreement on the avoidance of double taxation.
