Hellenic Business Council in Bulgaria members approved on March 18 an increased budget for 2010, citing the need to maintain the council's growing reputation and visibility.
Prime Minister Boiko Borissov, Minister of Regional Development Rossen Plevneliev and head of the executive council of the road agency Bozhidar Yotov will assess the construction process during an on-site visit
No less than 60 bridges across Bulgaria are dilapidated and are very dangerous for traffic
Average market prices of homes in Sofia fell by one per cent in the fourth quarter of 2011 compared to the same period of 2010, according to the Raiffeisen Real Estate Index, as quoted by Klasa daily.
Proportionately, the number of transactions in leva increased as people reacted to speculation that the euro would disappear.
Nearly all banks are ready to finance between 80 per cent and 90 per cent of the price of a home, provided it is a good building in a large city, Bulgarian daily says.
Property prices in Bulgaria were five to 10 per cent lower in 2011 than in 2010, while initial estimates for this year are that they will remain largely unchanged, with transactions remaining at ‘crisis levels’.
Bulgaria’s capital city Sofia ranks 17th, report says, quoting Global Property Guide.
Germany is top dog - fact.
Who wants to be compared to Germans?
Peter,
it's out of the Euro, and that makes it not really a full member. It doesn't see itself as a European entity - just talk to Brits.
It's gotta a monster deficit and it cannot be compared to Germany in any way especially in the EU context.
Nothing silly about facts.
Valeri - how little you understand about the UK economy. Maybe it sucks at the moment but it is still huge and the UK is an overall contributor to the EU - and has been a full member since 1973 (where do you get the idea its not a full member from). It always pays far more in than it takes out. Please dont make silly comments
"And we are not broke just more careful about paying for shit service ;)"
Oh and service was great a few years a go when you were flocking to BG like there wouldn't be enough for all?
No, service sucked back then too, not to mention infrastructure was much worse for sure, only you were living large on borrowed cash and didn't care - probably, borrowed indirectly from American mortgage backed securities, in the form of easy cash against your inflated homes ... come on, the days when you'd come to an [...]
Read the full comment upcoming country like BG and try to pass for something you are not, are gone. These days every one knows everything.
I look at a Brit, and know exactly how broke they are. First clue - you are in BG!
Taking a wild guess, you are not here looking to pay top rates, because you are broke, yet you'd bitch about the quality for days among yourselves. There is no anti Brit anything here, except a bunch of Brits who are working very hard on making sure that BG is added to the list of countries, where they feel unwelcome.... epithets like the one you used here, "shit", are certainly the right direction... keep it up, please!
The roads are getting better and better and the EU is paying for it. That has nothing to do with the UK. UK isn't even a full member and it represents a very small economy compared to giants like Germany, which is in effect paying for the EU, not you people. If they would be willing to build our roads, I am all for letting them. At least they know how to do it. Again, nothing to do with the UK.
"in order to compete internationally or regionally today, a country needs a healthy infrastructure".
This is the point I was trying to make.
THe only solution iis to get West European workers and Companys to do the work.
As usual the Anti Brit Brigade is at it again here.
And we are not broke just more careful about paying for shit service ;)
Yeah duh;)
the future looks great!
Great roads paid in full by the EU;) get used to it.
build crap roads that fall apart after a couple of winters due to corruption and then expect the EU to pay to repair them. Only Bulgaria has the cheek to ask for that and good luck if we can get away with it!
Sure, blame it all on the past again. Why not for a change once try think of the future?
BG,
I couldn't care less about the media and Turkey - as a history buff, I am speaking about since the fall of the Ottomans, that the Turkish military has been pretty much the only positive, secular and pro-western force in Turkey - certainly a guarantor of Democracy there. Anyway as it relates to BG, that's hardly a "normal" country.
I'll let you dwell in the headlines.
Regardless, BG's getting very nice motor ways, and I am excited to see them, albeit with all those delays. It's more important than [...]

Except the Germans Am Expat - there Hitler can be credited for the autobahns, not some gangsters... oh wait...
"Good for tourists they are the ones that have the money."
Who, the Russians? They are the only ones with money these days. The Brits who ruined our sea coast did it with borrowing against their UK homes - they are broke.
Hmmm, not sure that "normal" countries have always designed their infrastructure (roads/rail/ports, etc) before it gets built. I think it just gets built, and then generally after a need arises. No offense to anyone, but if you think that our infrastructure in the U.S. was built without any illegal involvement from certain sectors of society, (now or then) you're crazy.
That being said, in order to compete internationally or regionally today, a country needs a healthy infrastructure.
"So you agree that Bulgaria is not a "normal" country.
Now the question is why are you arguing?"
I don't agree that there IS such a thing like a "normal" country, much less in our part of the world.
Who around is normal - the Serbs with their ethno-nationalist carp, the Greeks - look at them, they are burning their country down, the Turks - the only country in the world where it takes military to guarantee Democracy, the Romanians or those brave heirs of Alexander the Great over in Skopie?

We are all what we are - we are just screwed up in different ways - thank God.. The point here is that every Brit that bought apartments on the Black Sea, especially in the hight of the transition where there was no rule of law (every country has had such periods in their history) have some responsibility for the overbuilding, because they tried to take advantage of the market, out of greed, so to hear them bitch now is ironic.
The country is slowly getting some rule of law, like never in my life - unless you find anything "legal" in our commie years, so a little perspective is needed.
Check this one below:
"You have wonderfull motorways joining the cities and then shit when you get into the cities."
Shoot us, why don't you....
There has to be some old roads left for the donkeys. Also I dont think the people of BG will like decent roads and footpaths they are not used to luxery.Good for tourists they are the ones that have the money.
Valeri,
So you agree that Bulgaria is not a "normal" country.
Now the question is why are you arguing? lol
We all know we are behind, but now that they unfroze the Cash we can start getting things done if the top dogs dont steal the money
""normal Country" they put the infrastructure in first (roads/gas/optic fibre/sewage system etc)"
Who told you to expect BG to be a "normal" country?
It's a country that went through a complete transition, which is never "normal". At least we didn't kill each other, like our neighbors to the west..
There were lawless times in the 90s when folks were building without any planning and accountability. Those times are pretty much over and now we'll all have to deal with it - legalize, demolish or build some infrastructure to serve Rab's [...]
Read the full comment apartment.
BTW Rab, when was your apartment build and by whom?
You see you are part of the problem - if it wasn't for this strange influx of westerners, greedy for cheap real estate we'd still have our sea side.
Coming to a poor country with weak laws - what do you expect? Of course crooks and all kinds of ruthless people will do anything for money.
I blame your type too you know. It's easy to sit here and dump on the country as if you have no part of the problem at all....
I know what you mean Rab. In a "normal Country" they put the infrastructure in first (roads/gas/optic fibre/sewage system etc) with allocated plots which have pre-approved status (residential/Industrial etc). Everything is clear and transparent.
The roads in and around Sunny Beach are a disgrace. I have had my apartment for 5 years and still no roads or pavements in and around my complex. If there is rain people have to wade through the water and the lack of roads and proper pavements puts tourists off as it takes the appearance away from the area.

you can kiss half of this money good bye.
What about the local municipal regions, They need money to upgrade the city and town roads too.
You have wonderfull motorways joining the cities and then shit when you get into the cities.
Good Job! as long as the money is spent right!!!! and no one is pocketing on the side, then we should see beautiful roads in bulgaria!
