The weather in Bulgaria will remain mild on March 22, with the Balkans currently the warmest region of Europe.
However, after a spell of sunshine lasting from March 19 through the weekend, cloud cover will gradually increase over Bulgaria with a front descending from the northwest, and by late afternoon, thick clouds over western and northern Bulgaria will prevail.
Temperatures will remain warm, averaging 17C for the country, in places reaching 20C while for Sofia, 18C.
It will be considerably colder in the mountains where temperatures at Moussala summit are at -2C. Meanwhile, on Botev Vruh in Stara Planina, temperatures are near 0C; winds are reported to be of "hurricane intensity".
Temperatures at 1200m will hover at about 10C while at 2000m they will be around 4C. With a shifting weather system and a gradual increase in cloud cover, strong winds, as well as warm temperatures and melting snow, weather conditions for mountain tourism are far from ideal.
Westerly winds will dominate the Bulgarian Black Sea coast, with average temperatures of 20C. Cloud cover will intensify late in the afternoon.
Between March 23 and March 25, temperatures will drop considerably, settling at around 8C across the country. Precipitation is expected in the next two to three days, and above 2000 metres in the mountains, snow.
