AmCham Sixth Annual Ski Tournament moves to Borovets

The sixth annual AmCham Ski Tournament will be held on Saturday March 13 2010 in Borovets ski resort in Rila mountain in the Martinovi Baraki II area, AmCham said. Last year, it was held in Sofia's Vitosha mountain.

Participants are separated into four categories: men, women, junior (12-17 years old) and children (up to 12 years). They can choose to enter the giant slalom races in alpine ski and snowboard.

A bus to transport participants from Sofia to Borovets will depart at 8.30am on March 13 2010 from Vassil Levski National Stadium. The technical meeting at the site is scheduled for 10am. All those wishing to take part must enrol by 11am.

The first round of races starts at 11.30am.The second is scheduled for 2pm. At 5pm there will be a cocktail at Yastrebets hotel and the bus back to Sofia departs at 6.30pm.

Organisers are offering a package for the ski tournament only and a weekend package with a gala dinner and accommodation at Hotel Yastrebets.

The short package costs 75 leva a participant (junior fee is 25 leva) while the full weekend package costs 160 leva a person (junior fee is 50 leva).

Its a shame that Sofia can't sort out Vitosha as a resort, it is sat on a gold mine and being held back by petty squabbling.

AmCham Ski Tournament

Ninety skiers took part in the fifth AmCham ski tournament on Vitosha on March 15. They competed in two disciplines - the giant slalom ski and giant slalom snowboard in four categories: men, women, children and team. All places in the children’s category were taken by competitors from the American College. The best run time among all skiers came from Alexander Savov and Svetlin Savov with 19.46 seconds and 19.55 seconds respectively on the downhill course, and also Petar Deenichin, from the American College, in the children’s category - 19.55 seconds run time.

Record turnout at AmCham ski tournament

A record number of 103 participants took part in the fourth annual AmCham Ski Tournament on February 24 at Aleko ski centre on Vitosha Mountain. AmCham members, students and journalists competed in two disciplines and four categories: men, women, children and team. Moten Sport supported the event technically and provided running commentary. Renault Nissan Bulgaria, among many others, also contributed to the event.
