Most of Bulgaria remains snowbound, causing severe obstructions along most major roads and motorways. Authorities are still in the process of clearing the roads, so motorists are advised to be particularly cautious when driving.

The Hemus, Trakia and Maritsa motorways are all under a blanket of snow, according to Dnevnik daily.

Additionally, fog and reduced visibility are causing additional complications.

Most boulevards and streets in Sofia are heavily affected by the snow and traffic jams can be observed across the city.

Public transport is delayed everywhere, including buses, trams, trolleybuses and route taxis.

A total of 34 collisions occurred in Bulgaria overnight, resulting in the deaths of 10 people and 46 injuries.

Snowfall will continue over Bulgaria on March 9 until late afternoon when, in western Bulgaria, skies are expected to clear, the Bulgarian meteorological website said in a statement.

Average temperatures for the country will be between -3C and 2C, while Sofia will record about -3C.

Moderate to strong winds will prevail in the mountains, with temperatures reaching -10C at above 2000m.

Along the Black Sea coast, temperatures will be between 1C and 3C; it will snow in the north and rain in the south.

Because of the weather conditions, the Varna to Sofia flight at 7.30am on March 9 was cancelled. For the moment, there are no other cancelled flights according to the Sofia Airport website, and none are listed as delayed.
