European Commissioner for international cooperation, humanitarian aid and crisis response Kristalina Georgieva launched her blog on March 1, the European Commission media service said in a statement.

Georgieva will make regular postings on her blog related to her portfolio and giving her personal impressions of her work and that of her staff in trouble spots around the world, the statement said.

In her first post, Georgieva said that she planned to "share thoughts and feelings on my job as Commissioner for Humanitarian Aid and Crisis Response. I also hope to tap into your ideas, so that together we can make the best out of this new portfolio."

Just two days after the 8.8 magnitude earthquake in Chile, Georgieva wrote: "Words can't capture the feelings of loss in such tragic circumstances, but I think it is important to convey the message that we are thinking of those who are suffering; that we are at their side."

"My second thought was how can we help those in dire need? Fortunately, the Chilean government is exceptionally well prepared and capable to handle disasters of this magnitude. And yet, it is important to stand by the Chilean people in their moment of need.

"So as an act of European solidarity we have made available 3 million euro. I hope these funds will help relief organisations operating in Chile to step up their efforts."

On March 3, writing from Haiti and giving a rundown of her first trip outside Port-au-Prince, Georgieva wrote: "Both the good and the bad have exceeded my expectations. People's basic needs are now met. There is plenty of food, water, basic shelter and medical care. But jobs are few, and the road to recovery is long and hard."

The blog has a multimedia section, where Georgieva has already posted videos and photos from her trip to Haiti.
