Eolica Bulgaria, part of Generacion Eolica International SL of the Spanish Enhol Group and Balkars Consortium, are constructing a wind park with a 60MW capacity in Souvorovo, northeastern Bulgaria, Stroitelstvo Gradut weekly reported on March 1 2010.

The new facility will cost in excess of 82 million euro, of which 60 million euro will be provided by the European Investment Bank (EIB) in a "syndicated loan with Eolica Bulgaria", the report said. Another 22 million euro will be provided by the Black Sea Trade and Development Bank.

Souvorovo is about 70km northwest of Varna. The plans for the project were announced in 2007 when the Spanish company was awarded a first class investment certificate. The site's survey took about two years.

The wind park is not at an inconsiderable distance from the Natura 2000 park, so it is said to be of no harm to the local flora and fauna.

Souvorovo wind park will consist of 30 turbines, each with 2MW capacity. Additionally, the complex will be equipped with its own auxiliary infrastructure, road network and installations linking it to the national power grid.

Overall construction has been given to Engstroiengineering EOOD, while the Spanish firm Gamesa is tasked with the erection of the 80 metre towers.

This is the second large wind park project supported by the EIB in Bulgaria. In 2008, the bank provided a chunk of the funds for the construction of the St Nikola wind park near Kavarna, worth 198 million euro. The main investor in the Kavarna park is AES.
