Because 17th century engravings and 21st century ceramics seemingly have nothing in common, Kurt Houbrechts and Nadia Maneva of the GreenCat Gallery decided it would be a fitting exhibition to celebrate the gallery’s fifth anniversary.
The exhibition, entitled Lost Traditions, Modern Expressions and which includes the works of famous 17th century map maker Matthaeus Merian and 25-year-old ceramics artist Georgi Milenov, opened on February 22 in Sofia’s Crystal Palace Boutique hotel. Where the engravings of Merian form the scientific basis of 17th century geographical knowledge, Milenov’s works stand in a century-old tradition of Troyan ceramics, the artist’s hometown. The exhibition, which continues until March 28, is Milenov’s first exhibition.
