Mihail Zhelev, an investigator from Bulgaria's Black Sea city of Varna, has been dismissed from his post by the Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) because of abuse of power, Bulgarian-language Dnevnik daily said on February 25 2010.

In his professional capacity as an investigator, Zhelev requested one of Bulgaria’s mobile phone operators to give him the phone records of his wife.

In his request, Zhelev said that he needed the phone records because they were part of an investigation that he was working on. Following the law governing such cases, the mobile phone operators presented him with the record.

What Zheleva did, however, was to use them as evidence in his divorce case against his wife. He is now under investigation by prosecutors.
