A three-page questionnaire, published by the European Commission's Directorate-General for Justice, Freedom and Security aims to collect  views on protection of personal data and data processing for law enforcement purposes.

A High Level Contact Group on information sharing and privacy and personal data protection (HLCG) has been working out the details on an agreement to share personal data between EU and US law enforcement since 2006.
The group published a report in May 2008, and an addendum in 2009.
In November 2008, the European Data Protection Supervisor presented an opinion on the HLCG report, suggesting the EC would seek the "opinions of stakeholders with a view to a future EU-US agreement on personal data protection and information sharing for law enforcement purposes."

The three-page questionnaire includes questions regarding purpose, scope and nature of the agreement, as well as questions about data protection principles.

The questionnaire is available in word and pdf format and can be returned to the EC by email.
Contributions are to be published on the website of the European Commission.

The consultation period will close on March 12 2010.
