Parents would pay full-time municipal kindergartens in Sofia a 60 leva monthly fee a child, city hall decided on January 28 2010, Bulgarian Focus news agency said.

Currently this fee was 40 leva a child.

The fee for half-day kindergartens would become 23 leva a month a child, with meal included, an increase of eight leva.

If meals were not included than the fee for having a child for a half-day at a municipal kindergarten would be 15 leva a child, a five leva increase compared to current rates.

The fee for kindergartens which take care for children during the working week would be increased from the current 48 leva to 72 leva a child.

In 2009, there were a total of 35 811 children in Sofia kindergartens, with city hall expecting this number to rise to 38 204 in 2010.

The 2010 Sofia budget which is yet to be adopted by city hall, provides 22.3 million leva for the completion and construction of 13 kindergartens that will increase the capacity of kindergartens with 2400 places.
