At the invitation of Turkish prime minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Bulgarian Prime Minister Boiko Borissov will lead a delegation on an official visit to Turkey on January 29 and 30, the Cabinet media office said.

Borissov will also meet Turkish president Abdullah Gul.

Accompany Borissov will be Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Tsvetan Tsvetanov, Culture Minister Veshdi Rashidov, Deputy Foreign Minister Marin Raikov and Sofia mayor Yordanka Fandukova.

After talks and plenary meetings on January 29, Borissov will travel to Istanbul on January 30 to the Bulgarian St Stefan church, and he will meet Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomeos I, the "first among equals" of the world’s Orthodox Christian patriarchs.

Earlier, there was tension between Sofia and Ankara after Bozhidar Dimitrov, minister responsible for Bulgarians abroad, publicly revived the issue of compensation that Bulgaria says it is owed from the time of the Balkan wars. Borissov slapped down Dimitrov and smoothed matters over with Turkey.
