On January 27 2010, Europe will mark the 65th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau, an event that will be attended, at the site of the notorious camp itself, by various international statesmen and dignitaries.

The former concentration camp was liberated on January 27 1945. The day was designated as International Holocaust Memorial Day by the United Nations in 2005.

Among those present this year will be Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Also taking part in the commemorations will be the Bulgarian Speaker of Parliament Tsetska Tsacheva.

She will also be honorary guest lecturer at a symposium entitled: "Remember the past for a peaceful future: United Europe against anti-Semitism, racism and xenophobia."

Tsacheva will also donate 17 documents related to the salvation of Bulgarian Jews to the Auschwitz museum.
