Bulgaria Foreign Ministry issues Winter Olympic Games travel advisory

Bulgaria's Foreign Ministry published on January 21 2010 a travel advisory for people interested in visiting Canada during the Winter Olympic Games. The 2010 Winter Olympics, otherwise referred to as the XXI Olympic Winter Games, will be staged on February 12–28 2010 in Vancouver, western Canada.

Tourists who wish to visit Canada during the event would be advised and reminded to follow some otherwise standard procedures. Bulgarians need a valid international passport and a Canadian visa, to start with.

Bulgarians are advised to make photocopies of their passports with their Canadian visas and have them validated as legitimate photocopies. In the case of documents being lost, such photocopy may facilitate a quicker and more efficient response from local authorities, the statement said.

Bulgarians are advised to fly directly to Canada and avoid transit flights through the United States, in which case a transit US visa will also be required. Valid medical insurance is also mandatory.

Obtaining a visa is possible at the Canadian embassy in Bucharest.

For further information regarding the Olympics themselves, accommodation and other useful information, tourists are advised to visit the organising committee's website.
