Bulgaria’s number one female tennis player, Tsvetana Pironkova, bagged her first round victory after defeating Galina Voskoboeva from Kazakhstan in the Australian Open, Reuters reported on January 20 2010.

Pironkova managed a 6-4, 6-4 victory over her opponent in a match that lasted about 92 minutes. Voskoboeva put up a determined and spirited resistance, but she was still eventually outpaced and outperformed by the Bulgarian

In her next round, Pironkova will battle it out with Shahar Peer. This was ensured after the Israeli player, who was initially losing to Lucy Hradecka in the first set, then regrouped and fought her way back to victory – 6-7, 6-3, 6-1
