About 300 protesters gathered in front of the buildings of Parliament in Sofia on January 14 2010 to protest against proposed amendments to the Electronic Communications Act, Bulgarian news agency BTA said.

The protest was organised under the slogan "Bulgaria is not Big Brother".

Protesters carried signs saying "We do not live in 1984. Eavesdropping. Government terrorism" and wore t-shirts saying "I am not a terrorist."

Former member of Parliament for the National Movement for Stability and Progress (NMSP) Mincho Spassov said proposed amendments should be withdrawn, calling on Prime Minister Boiko Borissov to get involved.

According to Spassov, the current proposals violated several constitutional rights.

The protest, which had started as a citizens' protest, was joined by several political parties, including the Greens, the United People's Party and the ultra-right Bulgarian National Radical Party.
