Serbian minister again barred from Kosovo

Serbian minister again barred from Kosovo

French Gendarmerie, part of the EU's Kosovo mission, stand at the entrance of the court building in the northern part of Kosovo's ethnically divided town Mitrovica, December 9 2008.

Belgrade summoned Western ambassadors to protest after Serbian minister for Kosovo Goran Bogdanovic was expelled from Kosovo for what Pristina called "conducting political activities" within Kosovo’s territory.

Serbia rejects Kosovo’s independence and Kosovo rejects Serbia having a minister for Kosovo. There have been a number of incidents involving Bogdanovic being barred from Kosovo.

The latest incident, on January 13 2010, happened after police in Kosovo stopped Bogdanovic as he was about to meet municipal authorities and escorted him to the border.

At a news conference in Pristina, police said that they were carrying out orders to prevent Serbian officials making unauthorised visits to Kosovo.

"Based on information we have, the so-called Serbian minister for Kosovo Goran Bogdanovic was about to conduct political activities which are against the decision of the government of Kosovo," Shpend Maxhuni, Kosovo Police deputy director of operations, was quoted as saying by media in Pristina.

On January 14, Serbian agency FoNet quoted Bogdanovic as saying that he would not stop visiting Serbs in Kosovo.

He had intended to welcome in the Orthodox (Julian calendar) New Year on Mt. Brezovica with the local Serbs "and learn about the problems they face, and how to reconcile different opinions present in that community," Bogdanovic said.

"As far as my future visits to Kosovo and Metohija are concerned, there’s no doubt there, no one can stop me," he said, adding that he had been born in Kosovo.

Serbian prime minister Mirko Cvetkovic called in the German, UK, French, Italian and US ambassadors in Belgrade, to protest against the incident and say that it was "unacceptable to in this way violate the human rights and freedom of movement in Kosovo," Serbian news agencies said.

Bogdanovic and presidential adviser Mladan Djordjevic were banned from entering Kosovo on May 27 2009. At the time, Serbian news reports quoted Kosovo officials as saying that the two were "unwelcome in Kosovo" and the visit was banned through the European Union mission EULEX.

In February 2009, a dispute erupted over the rights or otherwise of Serbian officials to enter Kosovo after Pristina barred Bogdanovic from entry.

dont waste your breath, and dont feed the troll. peggy dear is a serb apologist and propagandist.

after all the wars, death and violence in the past couple of decades in wich serbs have been the only common denominator across all ethnic and religious lines... the number one imperative for these people is to demonize everyone else as much as, whenever, they can, to bring them down to their level, to downplay and belittle the victims...or use them as tools... to somehow "equalize" everyone, so that it boils down to "everyone [...]

Dennis, can you tell me about these Albanians which are becoming famous in the western world and what they are famous for.

As far as I know the only thing coming out of western media about Ablanians is their attempt to orcharstrate a terrorist attack on Fort Dix. Now that is fame you can do without.

I am not suspicious about anything. No need for suspicion when the news confirms what is going on.

regarding the claim that serbs have been in the region for centuries, it is a true statement. Evidence suggests that the serbs migrated to the region in the 6th century A.D. migrating from slavic areas in ukraine and germany. At the time historians believe that they intermingled with the Vlachs. the same goes for the albanians, greeks, bulgarians, etc ...

ppl tend to put forth thier own view point and as a result make ridiculous claims. trying using 'non-biased' sources for historical facts.

either way, serbia should let them go ... in todays modern age, borders are not what they used to be. it will be a long time till kosovo will be able to establish what other nations have in terms of economy or political influence. some might say that kosovo's albanians have influenced world leaders to recognize their indepence. don't kid urself, that has more to do with political rangling between the big players such as russia, nato, and US. more than to be in the best wishes of the population. there will be another war in the region ... going by past history, it's a given ... might be in 100yrs, but probably will happen unfortunatly.

don't fool yourself. there are no tensions really, except in a few peasant villages in Kosova and Serbia.

the serbian people are lucky to finally have a real person as their leader. tadic is a practical man and understands reality. he just needs to throw out a few statements from time to time on kosova to keep a small percentage of the right wing fringe nationalists voting for him, but he obviously doesn't care about this issue.

imagine that in 2010, both greece & serbia allow religious institutions to directly interfere in foreign policy, immigration issues, and even economic development plans. look at what a mess greece has become, even after all the help from europe for so many years.

you can't let religious clerics decide economic policy or guide foreign policy, that is very "middle ages" ;-) but still common practice in greece & serbia.

Peggy,
Please try and enlighten yourself; I really don’t need a history lesson from you telling me what was once a republic, verses what was/is not, a province, and/or autonomous area/region within the Balkans. Prior to the collapse of the Ottoman Empire, and the void that was caused as a result; most of present day Balkans consisted of enclaves were principalities, provinces, and/or fiefdoms existed. One doesn’t need to go back thousand or hundreds years of history. Just go back less than 100 years. Perhaps, crack open a few books written by two extraordinary women (Edith Durham and [...]

Read the full comment Rebecca West) that describe the Balkans from a “non-biased” viewpoint.

These recently created so called six (6) republics, and two autonomous regions that you are referring, created and formed a fictitious country of Yugoslavia.

As for the Illyrian artifacts and where they may exists; why don’t you pay a visit to some of Western European museums and you may find them. Begin with the museum in Vienna, Austria.

The real questions you need to ask yourself is, “why would a small country like Montenegro which supposedly shares the same religion, language, etc., want to break lineage and secede from a big part of themselves?” Perhaps, the reason is that they may not be what they seem to be and understand this fact.

Logically, and from a sociology principles, whereby societies try to keep their unique culture and entity, etc; societies resist assimilation to other groups unless forcibly do so.

The latter is the main reason why most Kosovars actually adopted Islam. Albanian Kosovars are actually the first Europeans to adapt to Christianity.

Once the Ottomans capture the cradle of Orthodox Christianity; the ottomans pretty much understand that once this was done; societies can be controlled and influenced by the mere fact that their religious institutions were under their control. Where as with the Albanians; they didn’t not want to be grouped with the Greek/Slavic groups under the same umbrella (Orthodoxy) but rather remained Catholic for many years, until the Ottomans got tired and concerned with the fact the Albanian catholic allegiance still laid with the Vatican in Rome which the Ottomans didn’t control but always had a strong desire to do so. Ultimately, the Kosovars Albanians got tired of being much more harshly treated and in order to eliminate this concern and being taxed to death by the Ottomans; the Albanians converted to Islam. As opposed to giving up their ethnicity and being grouped with the Greek/Slavic orthodoxy.

Hopefully, this has shed some light into your narrow brain and has enlightened you a bit.

Cheers,
Illyrian Lover

Anonymous Sami Bushati Thu, Jan 14 2010 22:54 CET

"serbs have hundreds of centuries there" ;-) LOL

ha ha... wake up Peggy... Albanians represent the last remnants of the Native European which your people have attempted to destroy, to desecrate their graves, to rape their women to sow the seeds of division and fragmentation, over 13 centuries since you first began to trickle into an Illyrian dominated area.

there is NO EVIDENCE IN HISTORY WHATSOEVER of the destruction of the Illyrians or Thracians. so therefore, this tells us that slavs intermixed with the Thraco-Illyrians and obviously adopted their customs and traditions, [...]

Read the full comment while imposing the slavic language for commerce and eventually political power. some slavic blood is obviously present in the balkans, but the most recent genetic studies on haplotypes clearly indicate the oldest groups as emanating from the Albanian inhabited areas of the balkans. check for yourself.

but i do agree with one point you make Peggy, about changing borders... there is a point of absurdity that we all must avoid when try to climb so far back in history that forget we are all connected anyway, as a single human family.

but you miss the point. because this is not a rational discussion between calm serbians and albanians. we, as Albanians, have been facing a massive wall of propaganda that seeks to deny any value whatsoever to the Albanian culture, its unique language and unique place in European history.

AND, your most recent dictator Milosevic and his henchmen attempted to squeeze Albanians to the point of total asphyxiation...

AND, your culture has even associated the very word we use for our own people "Shqiptar" (which means people of the eagle), as a derogatory word, very similar to the southern American racist use of the N word.

AND, even under Tito, Albanians were denied the right to higher education in their own tongue and were forced to assimilate and absorb the Serbian version of history, including the sick mythology of Lazarus that permeates your nationalist psyche and makes it utterly impossible for you develop any sense at all of flexibility and love for neighbor, unless they act exactly like you and embrace your very narrow and fanatical interpretation of the beautiful life of Jesus Christ.

so the answer is the same, to all of you: Albanians are back, the voice and spirit of the Native European (Thraco-Illyric-Dacian) is back and will never again allow your younger reckless cowardly cultures to bring us to our knees.

other than that, let's be friends :-)

in other words, the oldest names of europe are simpler and in albanian usually refer to forces or elements in nature, reflecting the polytheistic and pagan origin of european culture... with time, those names are then affixed with various suffixes that reflect the need of the newest [...]

Read the full comment invader to "tag" the inhabitants of the land with "appropriate" names. so many serbs, croats and bosniaks have these Thraco-Illyrian elements in the beginning of their names and the multiple tags of the subsequent "visitors" to the region.

then there are some who completely conformed to the new religions that were brought from the middle east (christianity and islam), so they gave up the ancient pagan names and now have clearly biblical names that have less meaning but simply "tag" them to a more recent historical period.

then there are hybrids, with monotheistic first names, but older pagan names, perhaps still with a more recent slavic suffix.

---

that's how it works my friend. it is similar to, but less exact, than the genetic haplotype patterns.

let your Albanian Thraco-Illyrian brother educate you, and bring you back into the tribe where you belong anyway, if you are completely intellectually honest! ;-)

peace to all Balkan brothers, the oldest root of Europe.

As a result, though many of you have Albanian names with slavic endings, and many of you share highly similar, if not outright identical phenotypes, you still fight your obsessive battles to resurrect the brief period of your "glory" when you were famous for being lackeys and henchman (brutal militiamen, like Arkan) during the middle ages.

so let's keep everything in perspective and stop constantly glorifying figures like Lazarus, Arkan, Milosevic, Mladic, Karadzic, etc. wake up and UPDATE your visions of yourselves in the modern context.

join europe with an open heart and open mind and stop thinking you can somehow turn the clock back and refight the battle of the blackbirds, as your "great leader" milosevic once seduced you into believing.

wake up serbs, learn Thraco-Illyrian (Albanian) again and realize who you are, a mostly Illyrian/Thracian people with some Slavic blood, but perhaps not much in the end, judging from the phenotypes and the latest findings on haplotype concentrations.

wake up... and enjoy the old Illyrian Gusle with pride and a real understanding of the deep and dense cultural history of our great region. we are all brothers in the end, that is increasingly provable scientifically.

I think, Ludwig, that is why "Camp Bondsteel" is named as it is....

Where is that Greek-Albanian when you need him?

Correction:
~ "Steel" is an alloy (mostly iron and carbon then manganesium, chromium, vanadium...), interestingly much stronger than the constituting elements.

~ "Stealing" on the other hand is when NATO pretending to be a "humanitarian bombers" (under the cover of protecting the local minority population) bomb a little country of 8 million people day and night from a safe distance, then sign a "peace agreement" indicating that UN is in control while the sovereignty of the little country was going to be [...]

Read the full comment respected and then comes STEALING (not STEELING), building enormous military base and all this crap of "constitutional order, mate" at stolen property surrounding the base....

Any time when you have an occupation, protectorate and alike you have this kind of comedy where the pawns are dispatched up front with their "rules".

Take a look at this one:
>>As for you Bogdanovic you are Kosovar and if you act as a private person then you are most welcome and free to go anywhere you like.<< you are free to go anywhere....withing the barb wires perimeters...

Hey "mate", I do not know if you noticed, this place does not even have its own (Albanian) name. How could it be Albanian? "Kosova" and "Kosovar" is the way how primitive Albanian IMMIGRANTS, that did not speak Serbian well called the secret Kosovo province... (Kosova... Tetoava... Peq... My Internet name would be Ludwiq, Ludwiqi..). When you steel with NATO force the land and claim "constitutional order", then sign a "peace agreement" and pass UNR, then you have pawns declare an "independent" Statelet with the area of 100 square miles surrounding your military base, my "mate", you look funny.

Play nice Serbian Authorities. If you want to visit Kosova privately then you can visit it any time you want. But if you want to visit Kosova officially then you have to ask for permission from Kosova’s authorities, respect visiting procedures and respect Kosova’s constitutional order. Otherwise you will be banned indefinitely from visiting Kosova.

As for you Bogdanovic you are Kosovar and if you act as a private person then you are most welcome and free to go anywhere you like. But as Serbian Minister you as well have to ask for permission from Kosova’s [...]
