Cypriot media boss and CEO of family-controlled Dias media group and Sigma TV Andis Hadjicostis was shot dead outside his home in Nicosia's diplomatic neighbourhood of Engomi late on January 11 2010, international media reported.

Neighbours of the dead man told police they heard two rounds being fired. However, there were no further reports regarding the assassin's appearance. It is believed that he was with an accomplice and that the pair escaped on a motorbike. Following the forensics search, no cartridges were retrieved at the scene, so police believe his assassin used a revolver.

Hadjicostis was shot shortly after 8pm Bulgarian time, according to reports. The incident occurred near several embassies, including those of France, Russia, Egypt and the US.

Hadjicostis was credited with the creation of the Sigma TV station, "as well as modernising the media empire of radio stations, newspapers and magazines" in Cyprus.

This is a political assasination that demonstrates the fear among those dark and devious powers who want to sell out the Greek Cypriot people.
