I assume its because she know that no one of any importance pays tax in Bulgaria, they only take money from the majority and keep it for themselves .... isnt this what you Bulgarians do? For FACT the staff at the tax authorities take bribes and who bothers about that? Police do and who bothers about that.... the new government is just another name but still the same.
Rositza, I have nothing but time and it is what it is.
she does not need to get taxed twice.. as for the arse who aid extridate and imprison.. we all know the bulgarians take a pleasure in seeing forigners in trouble. bulgaria is not a hole in the wall. it just a rip off hole. get your life in order then you will get prosperous.
Bulgaria....what a mistake. They should not be in the EU as well as Romania.I'm not judgeing them just by this case.....all and all they're not ready yet...
Chasing Madonna is a start; a move in the right direction. The general awakening might just apply to the mafia as well. A first step is better than no step at all. Persevere. Here's hoping there will be more steps toward the universal application of existing law!
This article title is total absurd. The Bulgarian authorities do not chase Madonna, but the Bulgarian crooks who didn't pay their taxes. As per the agreement between USA and Bulgaria from 2007, in order to avoid double taxation, companies, which pay taxes in the USA don't pay taxes in Bulgaria and vice versa. No need to chase Madonna, if she paid already her taxes on the Bulgarian concert revenue.
As per the idiotic comments that Bulgaria is "hole in the wall", you should address the Madonna marketers - maybe they will hire you for the smart [...]
Read the full comment geopolitical choices you make. This way you wouldn't have time to hang on the Internet and write stupid comments.
Jayrain, well I live in BG and the mentality of Bulgarians is how much they can get out of anybody esp. foreigners. Sure they deserve to have large venues come here but don't degrade her in the press for what is more then likley a misunderstanding. I live here and I do love it here but I'm so tired of this get what you can out of people from the USA or the UK it's over kill. Call Madonna's people and work it out, don't drag her or any band that comes here, it's tacky and will distract other great [...]

You take care my fellow American
Yeah, Madonna this time. Bulgarian NRA chasing Madonna (!?) - Are you alright people?!?!? You nuts?!WHAT Madonna has to do with NRA of Bulgaria idiots? Get your house in order first and then chase Madonna, Elton John and whoever... My Gosh... Do you reckon someone believes your silly titles...
Does anyone read? They're after the promoters, not Madonna. It's just a catchy headline. The promoters should pay the tax, since they are the ones who booked Madonna, paid her, and took care of all the logistics. They are the shady ones, not Madonna. Jeez people!
And for my 2 cents, she definitely decreased the prices of tickets in Bulgaria. She probably still made a profit, but it would have cost a lot more to see her show in the States or UK.
What a shame Bulgaria is just as corrupt as it has ever been and the Bulgarian Government are just using such big names to get publicity that they look like they are doing something.... basicly Bulgaria should be thrown out of the EU and left to rot
Just say no to all taxes. Revolt now!
Extradite & imprison now !!
Stefcho, a little hard on BG wouldn’t you say? In your view Bulgarians are not worthy of any main stream performers. I think you’re a bit off base when you comment that the performers loose 300% by playing a Sofia venue. Take into consideration she saves hundreds of thousands in labor and setup costs due mainly to the lower income levels in Bulgaria, plus add in the exchange rate which her company I’m sure paid in GBP so she is way ahead of the game from the word go! Madonna also is a big girl with a lot of savvy [...]
Read the full comment business consultants watching every penny they spend and you can be assured that if they were loosing revenue they would not make a stop in BG. Also consider how much money is saved on all the movie productions made in BG, can’t be such a hole in the wall now can it? Give them a break they are a developing country of considerate people trying to make a living and its people like you who stereotype the entire Country as being bad. I live in the US and visit BG at least 5 times a year and leave there with nothing but thoughts of returning.
As well Madonna is ultimately responsible for the tax owed. The promoter is an agent of Madonna and as such she can be held liable for the monies owed.
Unreal, people like Madonna come to this hole in the wall like most won't even bother, make the ticket prices much cheaper then anywhere else in the world and now all the tax man wants is to track them down and get there 10%. I hope in light of this fact that Elton John don't come to BG. I understand that these people should pay the tax that they owe, however would it not be better if they worked this all out prior to the concert instead of making a fool of the artist that come here and take a [...]
Read the full comment lose coming here. I'm sure that Madonna made 300% less coming to Sofia only to be ridiculed in the press for not paying her 10% and Phillip your right, what about all those other fat cat's? You don't see there names in the paper do you? Because if you did and some jouralist listed there names, they may wake up to a bomb at their door or a beating one night. Why should anyone respect Bulgaria when Bulgarians don't even respect there own country? They are only concerned about what's in it for them and this mentality as long as it continues will never allow BG to come into the 21st century.
Madonna is just like all the other liberal Celebs and Obama minded people, they only want other people to pay the way and they have no intentions of practicing what they preach.
This is a witholding tax which is actually very dubious. The Dutch did the same some years ago though an EU ruling has found such a witholding tax to be illegal. It is not the performer that is guilty though for non-payment but the companies organising the concert for not taking the 10% away from the payment made in the 1st place. Equally when Batte Boyko gets his mutra friends to startt paying then may be everyone else will be more symathetic to doing so also.
The foreign celebs should stump up.
But it's a pity this principle doesn't seem to be equally applied to Bulgarian fat-cats who have high-up friends...
so what riot.? if the ordinary man as to pay tax these so called mega rich people should pay it simple as that what planet are u on. if a person owed u money would u not want it back. end of story.....
So what?
