Bulgaria’s Traffic Police (KAT) say that they will intervene to relieve winter holiday season traffic congestion.

Stepped-up numbers of traffic police will be deployed in the worst-hit areas, Bulgarian National Television said on December 23 2009, quoting a KAT statement.

From December 23 to 30, police will regulate traffic at exits from the capital city, Sofia and on December 27 and January 3, will direct the movement of traffic as holidaymakers return to the city.

If the weather worsens, traffic police will order heavy goods vehicles to stop, especially if they are not properly prepared for winter road conditions.
