Serbian plane makes emergency landing at Sofia Airport

An aircraft from Jat Airways, the national carrier of Serbia, was forced to make an emergency landing at Sofia International Airport on the evening of December 20 2009, Bulgarian media deported.

According to airport director Plamen Stanchev, at 6.41pm the commander of the Serbian aircraft requested permission from Bulgarian air traffic authorities for an emergency landing.

The carrier was conducting a routine flight from Belgrade to Istanbul with 56 passengers on board.
 
Reportedly, one of the Boeing 737 engines produced unusual noise, followed by vibrations.
 
The plane landed at 7.01pm at Sofia Airport. All passengers were safe and sound and were taken to Terminal 1.
 
On December 20, due to poor weather conditions, several planes had landed at Sofia airport with up to two hours' delay.
So far, in the morning of December 21, no flights had been delayed at Sofia Airport because of the weather, according to the airport's website.
