Parliament imposed a moratorium on any transactions involving the agriculture land and forests of the former royal family, Bulgarian-language Dnevnik said on December 18 2009.

The motion was proposed by the Order, Law and Justice party and was supported by ruling party GERB, ultra-nationalist Ataka party and the right-wing Blue Coalition.

The Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP) and all but two of the MPs from the Movement for Rights and Freedoms (MRF) abstained from voting.

In 2003, during former Bulgarian monarch Simeon Saxe-Coburg's term as prime minister, Parliament decided to return the assets of the former royal family, seized by the Communist regime in 1946.

It was later alleged that during the restitution, about 452ha of forests near the town of Samokov were transferred to the former royal family with no legal basis for doing so.

On October 2 2009 the state forestry agency said that Saxe-Coburg had been given more than his due and that the state would go to court to recover them.

Before the state forestry agency’s announcement in October, critics of Saxe-Coburg had long alleged that forests had been given to him on a basis that was unlawful.

On November 4 2009, Agriculture Minister Miroslav Naidenov said he would file a court claim at the Sofia Regional Court on behalf of the state asking the court to recover some forest land awarded to Simeon Saxe-Coburg.

Some forest land????? If it was unlawful why not take it all and give it back to the rightful owners instead of just giving it to the state?
