The Bird's Nest during the Olympic Games' opening ceremony on August 8 2008

China's iconic national stadium in Beijing, also known as the Bird's Nest, is being turned into a winter playground at a cost of about $7 million in an effort to attract more tourists during the quieter Christmas and Chinese New Year season. The stadium has been rarely used since it was a venue for the 2008 Summer Olympic Games.
