The European Commission has funnelled 36.83 million euro into the Bulgarian agriculture sector, Agriculture Minister Miroslav Naidenov was quoted as saying by Dnevnik daily on December 16 2009 following a Cabinet meeting.

The funds will be made available for municipal projects which, according to local authorities, have been approved and are pending execution, Dnevnik said. According to Naidenov, some of the funds will be allocated to finance the construction of water purification stations and the building of renewable energy installations.

Moreover, some of the funds will be supplied to medium and small-scale private enterprises, according to Naidenov. Reportedly, priority will be given to financing projects designed to improve the Bulgarian diary sector, modernising it and rendering it more competitive.

Funds will also be given to Satovcha municipality because the region is yet to receive any financial assistance from EU sponsored programmes.
