Europol arrests 115 suspects in online paedophilia ring

After searches of homes in Bulgaria and 18 other countries, police arrested 115 suspected paedophiles in a major investigation into distribution of child pornography, Europol announced on December 10 2009.

The investigation, under the codename Operation Typhon, focused on a network that used an Austrian website, and has taken two years. Austrian criminal intelligence services headed the investigation.

Five of the victims have been identified. The youngest was four years.

A total of 221 suspects had been investigated, some of whom worked on a daily basis with children as teachers or carers.
