A private vault on Sofia's Dondoukov Boulevard, owned by the Aso-Pireli security company, was robbed in the early hours of December 10 2009, Bulgarian private broadcaster Darik radio said.

According to first accounts, between 160 and 190 of the vault's boxes have been opened and emptied by the robbers.

Police advised clients of the vault to make an account of their belongings and whether they have gone missing.

The armed robbery happened 10 minutes after midnight, when a group of armed men attacked the two security guards at the vault. The guards were pushed to the floor and handcuffed.

After emptying the vault's boxes, attackers left the scene, taking the CCTV recordings with them, Darik said.

Excellent material for cartoonists and satirists. A wonderful country for organizing cigarette smoking and formula one racing without building a race track or special smoking rooms. What percentage of Bulgarians know that we now live in the age of wisdom?

Wow, that was a stunningly easy heist. They only had to take out two guards. Apparently, it was easy to get it. Apparently, the boxes are not well secured. Apparently, the design is stupid given that the CCTV tapes are accessible on site, defeating the purpose. And apparently they had inside help - they knew where and how to get the CCTV tapes.
