Kyustendil municipality bans all incendiary substances

Firecrackers, bombs, and all other incendiary substances have been banned by the authorities in the municipality of Kyustendil in western Bulgaria, Dnevnik daily reported on December 9 2009.

Their sale as well as their use is made illegal with immediate effect. The banning order came from the town's mayor which extends to all business and retail areas trading in such items, regardless of whether they have official permission to sell them in the first place.

In addition to revoked licences for sales purposes, the ban encompasses all schools, play schools, nightclubs, discos, pubs, public places, football grounds and sports halls – in all these establishments the use of firecrackers is forbidden.

Failure to comply with the law may result in a fine of up to 5000 leva, Dnevnik said.

What next - a ban on all vehicles immediately after the next accident. A ban on all drinking after the next drunk is arrested.

Are municipalities allowed to ban something that is legal within the Republic of Bulgaria??

Overkill. Its going to be a quite place on New Years Eve then. I feel for what has happened, my heart goes out to relatives. But this is total over reaction to the situation.
