Strong earthquake shakes Turkey on December 4

A strong earthquake hit southwestern Turkey on December 4 2009 at 08:02:25 AM local time, world media reported.

The United States Geological Survey has said that the magnitude of the tremor was 5.2 on the Richter scale, while Bulgarian media says it was 4.9.

The epicenter of the tremor was triangulated at 30km northwest of Denizli, 90km east of Aydin, 95km north-northeast of Mugla, and 410 km west-southwest of Ankara.

As yet, there are no reports of damage to homes and infrastructure or of casualties.
