Mountain Rescue Patrol have successfully rescued two climbers stranded in Pirin Mountain's infamous Koncheto Ridge.

The woman had plunged 200 metres on the afternoon of December 2 and sustained serious multiple injures, while her male companion remained with her overnight in freezing temperatures.

Initially the rescue operation was hindered by a blizzard and extreme weather. Helicopter rescue was deemed impossible, and mountain rescuers spent the night in Yavorov Lodge, media reports said. A 22-strong mountain rescue patrol team resumed the mission from different routes up the mountain on the morning of December 3 with reports saying that weather conditions were marginally better than on the day of the accident.

The man was reported to be in "good" condition, while the woman was said to be "mobile". Both climbers have been taken to hospital. The  climbers' names have not yet been disclosed by authorities.
