The British Council has donated more than 10 million volumes of books, worth in excess of 137 000  pounds sterling (about 294 000 leva), to the English department at Sofia University's library, Dnevnik daily reported.

The donation, which was made on December 1 2009, features a vast collection of specialised and contemporary literature as well as more than 850 discs containing British music and more than 1100 DVDs of noted British films.

All current members of the British Council Library will receive automatic membership of the new English department library within the Sofia University until their membership expires, Dnevnik said.
