Environmentalists from the For the Nature organisation have offered a 4000 leva, about 2000 euro, reward to anyone who can help apprehend the poachers who killed a brown bear near the village of Vlahi in southern Bulgaria.

The animal was found on July 25 2009. It had been disemboweled and its front paws had been cut off, Bulgarian daily Dnevnik said.

The award would be given to anyone who could provide useful information on the person or person who killed the bear, animal rights organisation Four Paws said.

Four Paws provided the money for the reward, together with the Bulgarian Biodiversity Foundation and the Frankfurt Zoological Society.

Experts said the bear had been killed for its organs and both of its front paws, which were thought to have been sold on the market. Each year, between 40 and 50 bears were killed, but not in such a brutal way, environmentalists said.

Near the dead bear, a small bear cub was found. The cub would not be able to survive alone in the wild, Dnevnik said.

Tip-offs regarding the poachers can be made by calling 02/9531784 or 0876/583593.

I hope they rescued the cub and had a bear rescue group take it in for rehab. This is disgusting.

find the poachers. take them to a remote mountain. give them a 10 minute head start. then have others hunt and poach them. tape it and put it on youtube.

Would be cool, if you could add the link to organizations mentioned in your articles, like "Four paws" and "Bulgarian Biodiversity Foundation", in your articles in the future.
