Bulgaria to pay out farm subsidies after December 5

More than 200 million leva was to be paid out in direct subsidies from the budget to farmers, starting December 5 2009, Bulgarian media said.

The subsidies would be paid out for land and stock owned, Agriculture Minister Miroslav Naidenov was quoted by Bulgarian daily Klasa as saying.

Government had approved four subsidy schemes for 2009; based on ha agriculture land owned, and for each cow, sheep and goat.

Direct subsidies from the budget for land totalled 150 million leva, with a separate 61 million leva earmarked for stock.

Additionally, 560 million in European Union agriculture subsidies would be paid out, Bulgarian media said.
