Fifty companies from across Europe interested in Bulgaria's Trakiya motorway

Bulgaria's Trakiya Motorway project is attracting serious interest across Europe, as 50 companies have purchased public procurement procedures documents for public tenders for the section from Stara Zagora to Nova Zagora, Regional Development Minister Rossen Plevneliev was quoted as saying by Dnevnik daily on November 26 2009.

According to Plevneliev, the fact that the project had attracted such vast interest was a clear indication of the administration's transparency and use of EU funds.

The deadline for purchasing public tender documents is December 31 2009. Construction is to start on May 3 2010.

Plevneliev was in Bourgas as part of the official delegation accompany European Regional Policy Commissioner Pawel Samecki. Samecki is inspecting the use of EU funds in Bulgaria.

Building of the road interchange near Bourgas linking the port city with southern Bulgaria is to start in spring 2010. To go ahead with this, the Government will have to borrow from the European Investment Bank, Dnevnik said.

The Trakiya motorway A1 is in southern Bulgaria, and when completed will link Sofia with Bulgaria's second largest seaside city of Bourgas, part of European Corridor VIII. The total length of the motorway, including the Sofia – Kalotina section on the border with Serbia is 443 km, of which 259km have been completed.

What's the betting that this goes to a Bulgarian or Italian company. Then in 2 years time Sofia Echo will be reporting that it turns out its a relation of the person who awarded the contract and €100M has gone missing.

Yavor Nedev has been appointed head of the state National Agency of Fisheries and Aquaculture. He replaces Yordan Staikov who join the team of advisers of Agriculture Minister Miroslav Naidenov. In 2009, Nedev was appointed by Naidenov as director of the recently-founded state Fishery Resources company, which is to manage fishing ports and operate with EU funds. He has been vice president of the Bulgarian - Swiss Chambers of Commerce as well as president of Cherno More football club in Varna. Nedev has also worked as a political scientist and university professor.
