The trial of Australian Paul "Jock" Palfreeman will resume on December 2 2009 when lawyers can begin presenting their arguments, Sofia City Court decided on November 18 2009.

Palfreeman, 22, is charged with the murder of law student Andrei Monov after a street brawl in Sofia at the end of 2007. He has also been charged with the attempted murder of a 19-year-old (with a knife) during an altercation.

Palfreeman, from Sydney, denies both charges and says he was trying to defend himself from a group of men when he intervened after seeing them attack a group of Roma.

On November 18 2009, the latest medical reports on the case were presented and accepted by the court. The reports explained the wounds on the victim's body and the way they had been caused.

Other evidence, such as the murder weapon and the clothes of those involved in the incident, were also presented to the court as well as a video recording showing the silhouettes of those involved in the row, but not the actual murder itself, BTA Bulgarian news agency said.

The defence requested a new medical report on a number of points including the state of the victim (whether he might have been under the influence of alcohol) just before the incident. This was denied, however, because, according to the court, such reports were conducted in the past.

On October 29 2009, the court postponed the trial after four experts, who are drawing up detailed reports on the case, requested more time.

At the beginning of last year Sofia City Court rejected Palfreeman's bail plea after the judge ruled that Palfreeman was aggressive and could attempt to flee court proceedings. The case has been repeatedly postponed ever since.

Earlier this year, a controversial Australian documentary, entitled One Night in Sofia, questioned events surrounding Monov's death and Palfreeman's ensuing prosecution.

The programme also featured prominently Palfreeman's father, Dr Simon Palfreeman, an Australian pathologist. The defence has demanded that Dr Palfreeman serve as his lawyer in the case.

it's just not normal for football hooligans to go around attacking lone people for no reason..... Wait ah minute... Actually it IS....

But surely it's normal for a lone tourist to attack 20 football hooligans for no reason (prosecutor's charge)..... Wait a minute... Actually it's NOT!

Some thoughts:

The question asked of the expert was what would the effect of an alcohol level of 2.9 promil(Andrei Monov's level) have on a person. The judge ruled that as the report had already said a "severe" effect no further report was needed

On october the 29th the trial was postponed because the senior pathologist did not appear and gave the court no excuse

Since the bail hearings there has been a detailed psychological report stating that Jock is not a violent or aggressive man

The defence did not demand that the Jock's father be made a "lawyer". Under Bulgarian law close family members are allowed to join the defence team to allow closer contact with the defendant

This is very clearly an intelligent young who who found himself in an unfortunate situation. or a dangerouse man, but with itelligents this charge conflicts with the fact he used his ability in a street fight for no gain, this looks clearly a case of a brave man in a fearfull situation.
If bravery is a crime then he may be guilty.
I can find it plausible that a young man in foreign country be fearful of a group in an altercation and also fearful toward corruption that may of deteriorated this man trust of [...]

Read the full comment advocacy, but none the less I am unaware of what profile the victims or perpetrators are.

This is clearly a case of interest
I wonder what gift of knowledge could arrise to appease this situation, Like an advocate, but who, with no hands to do this.
