A tremor measuring 4.5 on the Richter scale shook Albania on the morning of November 18 2009, international media reported.

The epicentre of the earthquake was triangulated at just 13km east of Tirana, Albania's capital.

According to reports from the Albanian seismological institute, cited by Dnevnik daily, the jolt was followed by several smaller aftershocks in quick succession.

The jolt was felt in other regions of Albania, but for the moment there were no reports if it was felt as far afield as northern Greece or western Macedonia. Reports indicate, however, that the towns of  Durres, Burrel and Kruje, among others, all felt the tremor.

For the moment, Albanian authorities have not disclosed information about structural damage to homes or infrastructure or casualties.
