The experiment is called Balkan Scientist Reunion Night and involves 26 musicians from different generations, ethnic backgrounds and musical styles, all playing one night of improvised Balkan music.

Organisers say they want to show young people how the traditional culture of the Balkans can be transformed in new, modern and innovative ways.

Previous similar experiments have seen the participation of legendary folk singer Yanka Rupkina, virtuoso violinist Ventsi Takev, Vassil Gyurov, bassist of Bulgarian rock band Review, as well as jazz musicians Rossen Zahariev - Roko and Georgi Donchev, organisers said.

For Balkan Scientist Reunion Night, "these musicians will come together again to play and demonstrate in practice that music brings people together and does not divide them," DJ Bai POP, one of the organisers, was quoted as saying in a media statement.

The concert will take place on November 28 at Sofia's 4KM Party Centre.
