Deputy Minister of Education Sergei Ignatov will succeed Education Minister Yordanka Fandukova after her victory in the November 15 2009 elections for Sofia mayor, Prime Minister Boiko Borissov told reporters on November 17 2009.

Ignatov's reaction, according to BTA Bulgarian news agency, was that he had accepted Borissov's offer.

"Boiko Borissov acts in away that one cannot say no," Ignatov said. Ignatov joined the Ministry after the July elections for Parliament when Borissov's party GERB won most seats in Parliament.

According to Ignatov, the education system in Bulgaria needed modernisation and he pledged to continue Fandukova's policy in the sector. He also said that the Bulgarian Academy of Science had been lagging behind with its reforms.

Ignatov said that he was familiar with the education system and had management experience which would help him with his new portfolio.

Before that, he was head of Sofia's private New Bulgarian University, a position he has held since 2002.

Born in Vidin on the Danube, Ignatov, 49, is considered one of the founders of Bulgarian Egyptology.

He graduated in Egyptology and Eastern Countries Studies at St Petersburg's state university and later specialised at All Souls College, Oxford university.

In 1994 he received a PhD in Egyptology. Since 1997 he has been associate professor at Sofia University St. Kliment Ohridski. He has also been a lecturer at New Bulgarian University since 1994.

He is author of the research works Papyrus Doesn't Grow on Rocks and Egypt of Pharaohs.

In this case instead of the original thought "BB is a leader who knows how to convince you to take on a challenge" it was made sound like "BB does not take No for an answer, an imposing bastard". That aside, I agree with Valeri - the education system back in BG will benefit greatly from taking a turn to being more pragmatic and bring up kids to grow thoughtful, entrepreneurial, adaptable and responsible, not like we were in the 70-s and 80-s [...]

Made you an offer you can't refuse?
;))

Seriously, I hope he start reforming the educational habit in BG away from memorizing and more into analyzing. Critical thinking leads deeper understanding at school as well as collective projects teach folks to work better in a corporate setting later in life.
One thing I liked about the States is the ease with which people fit in a new project and outfit and get down to the task [...]
