New blow for Manchester City as Bulgarian winger Petrov suffers injury

Bulgarian international and Manchester City left winger Martin Petrov is facing at least two weeks on the sidelines after sustaining yet another knee injury whilst on international duty with Bulgaria, the club's website said in a statement on November 16 2009.

The latest injury has come after a particularly successful spell with the club. The Bulgarian achieved what his compatriot Dimitar Berbatov accomplished across the city at Manchester United: Petrov was voted the fans' player of the month in October, after a string of powerful performances and three goals to his name.

Notably, Petrov managed to win the accolade from the City supporters despite the fact that the Bulgarian was hardly ever considered as a regular first choice player.

The player complained of a sprain of the inner ligament in the left knee, which will also rule him out of Bulgaria's November 18 friendly against Malta.

Petrov left the Bulgarian camp and has returned to City's Carrington training centre for further medical evaluation and rehabilitation, the media statement says.

Manchester City's following fixture is a tough away encounter against Liverpool at Anfield on November 21, a match with an early kickoff at 2.45pm Bulgarian time.
