Fast food chain "McDonald's Bulgaria" won first prize in the "Best Employers in Bulgaria" annual ranking for 2009, in the "large companies" category, while pharmaceutical firm Astra Zaneca won first place in the medium and small company class, a study from the consulting company Hewitt Associates and its strategic partner Monday Insight has revealed, cited by Dnevnik daily on November 13 2009.

In the study, a total of 13 176 employees and 353 managers from 91 companies participated. The study is conducted in companies that employ more than 50 personnel on a full-time basis and only those who have worked for at least two years were interviewed, with no less than 60 per cent of the final result being allocated to "employee feedback".

The study researches the "level of harmony and co-ordination between top management and staff and its effectiveness" Dnevnik said.

Pharmaceutical company Astra Zeneca received the award from Sodexo and Hewitt Associates for having the best "social policies", while mobile phone operator Mobitel received the award for "highest accomplishment" in 2009. Svetla Simidjieva, from Monday Insight, told Dnevnik that in view of the growing popularity of the survey, a growing number of companies in the country are applying for participation and that in 2010, a special category will be created for companies that employ more than a 1000 employees.
