President Obama's favourite choir will perform in Sofia on November 12

The Angels in Harlem Gospel Choir, or what Bulgarian media has referred to as US president Barack Obama’s "favourite choir", will perform at the National Palace of Culture (NDK) in Sofia on November 12 2009.

The Concert of Hope will begin at 7pm in Hall 1. This will be the first time that the Angels of Harlem perform in Bulgaria. Apart from their traditional repertoire, the musicians will also perform several Michael Jackson classics, Dnevnik daily reported on November 12 2009.

"We are certain to perform songs in honour of our friend Michael Jackson, who passed away this year and immersed the entire world with sorrow," said Alan Bailey from the choir.

The event on November 12 will be inaugurated by Susan Sutton, from the US Embassy in Sofia.

The Harlem Gospel Choir is based in Harlem, New York, and it has carved out a reputation for itself as one of the most prominent gospel outfits in the US.

The choir is internationally renowned as it has toured the world, and has appeared on national television programmes such as Good Morning America, and The Colbert Report. They have sung for Pope John Paul II and have performed with The Chieftains, Diana Ross, Whoopi Goldberg and Paul McCartney.
