Deluge from heavy rains continued to terrorise parts of northern Greece, causing destruction and death for the second time in a fortnight, Greek daily Kathimerini reported on November 10 2009.

One man was confirmed to have drowned by the floods, while two others are missing since November 9, the report said. The floods have affected Grevena, Trikokia, Karpero, Aridaia, and Pella, amongst others, Greek media said.

Apart from destroyed homes and infrastructure, one man drowned in Grevena, northern Greece, after his car was swept away by onrushing water.

Meanwhile Greek rescue teams are searching for another man who vanished whilst a surge of water swept his car away in Pella, northern Greece. The man's 35-year-old wife and 17-year-old daughter had managed to escape the submerged vehicle and swim to safety.

Rescue units and firefighters, as well as locals, were still looking for the swept vehicle and the missing man.

Heavy rain was responsible for substantial flooding in southwest Bulgaria as well, causing the Bistritsa river to bust, inflicting residential and infrastructural damage. The town of Kyustendil and villages in the surrounding area have been affected, as well as the town of Petrich on the border with Greece. There are no reports as of yet regarding Bulgarian victims of the flood.
