A 1km area around the Ariana Lake in central Sofia has been outfitted with free wireless internet access, Bulgarian daily Monitor quoted a Sofia municipal media statement as saying.

The provision of free wireless internet access in certain parts of the city was decided by Sofia municipality in 2008, Monitor said, and was to include - besides Borissova Gradina - the gardens and squares around the Aleksander Nevski and Sveta Sofia churches.

"Internet access does not cost the taxpayer anything because it is provided free of charge by a local company," municipal councillor Konstantin Tilev was quoted as saying.

So far, free wireless internet access had been made available in the Zaimov park.
