A grand total of 1600 leva was raised by 57 people in 13 teams participating in the annual One Life Charity pub quiz held on November 8.

Questions started off relatively straightforward - "Who was the British prime minister at the time of the abdication of King Edward VIII in 1936?" but became progressively harder, particularly to those unfamiliar with the finer subtleties of sporting versatility in the 1980s. For example, did you know that Ian Botham captained the English cricket team and played as a centre-forward for Scunthorpe United in the 1980s?

Entry price was 15 leva and included as much food as you could eat. All proceeds went to various good causes, including children with chronic diseases and disabilities.

JJ Murphy's gave 10 per cent of the evening bar takings to One Life Bulgaria. Murphy's, together with Food Works, provided the food free of charge.

Question-master at Murphy's was Carl Smith.

The winning team was composed of Eimear Friel, John Keating, Nick Leake, Oana Maria Bucsa and Elisabeth Hornung who scored a very impressive 63 points out of 76.

Further quizzes will be held in December, January, February and March.
