Four Bulgarians arrested in Moscow after police raid illegal software production - media report

A Russian police raid on the premises of the Bulgarian Industrial Centre in Moscow has resulted in the arrest of four Bulgarian employees of the Millennium 2001 company.

The news was announced by the Bulgarian National Television (BNT) who quoted relatives of the four detained Bulgarians whose arrest has not yet been officially confirmed.

Two of the four Bulgarians were arrested during a police search in the centre on November 5 2009 while the other two were arrested at their homes in Moscow.

According to BNT, the Russian police operation against Millennium 2001 was related to an investigation against the production of illegal software and CDs.

When the raid took place the Bulgarian embassy said that it hadn't been notified by the Russian authorities since the building had diplomatic status and immunity.

Bulgaria's Foreign Ministry initially expressed about the police operation and asked the Bulgarian ambassador to intervene, leading to the operation being halted.

Now BNT has said that the operation continued after Russian police was given permission by Bulgaria to perform the search.

BNT quoted the Bulgarian ambassador to Russia, Plamen Grozdanov, as saying that permission was given to avoid any tension and to help authorities establish the truth.
