Bulgaria's second-largest mobile operator Globul posted an 8.1 per cent decline in revenue in the third quarter of 2009, compared to the same period of last year, according to the results published by parent company OTE on November 5.

The decline, which included a 13 per cent drop in service revenue, was mainly due to lower prepaid and roaming revenues, OTE said in its third-quarter financial reports.

Revenue for the first nine months of the year, however, remained 1.5 per cent higher than in 2008, at 336.9 million euro. Operating income before depreciation and amortisation was 0.3 per cent down to 139.7 million euro.

Globul had about 3.97 million customers at and-September, a 1.3 per cent decrease year-on-year. Despite increasing its postpaid customer base by 3.2 per cent over the 12 months ending in September, the number of prepaid customers was down 5.8 per cent and the average monthly revenue per user was down seven per cent to about nine euro.
